The program

What is Success for Life 101?

It's a series of mini video lessons based on the multiple award-winning Strategies for Success program I created for my high school to inspire and empower teens.

My vision during the 2020 Covid lockdown was to create a site for teens and parents (SuccessforLife101.com) to help them deal with the myriad situations that Covid was presenting. My original intent was to not offer the program to schools at all since it wasn't the way traditional lessons are taught. But I wanted to help if I could. These are not typical times and sometimes they call for out of the box solutions.

The students I had in my high school classes, college freshmen seminars and multiple state DECA seminars loved these lessons and were grateful for them. They are not traditional lessons, not filmed professionally but in my living room, not academic in nature but practical and immediately useful. They are basic lessons created to help teens survive the challenges of being a teen which I felt my students needed after we lost one of our students to suicide after he had been bullied.

Schools purchase a license for a specified period. With that license, anyone in the school district - teachers, support staff - may access the collection of video lessons.

Lessons are very short and may be used in almost any subject area. They are particularly useful for those last five minutes in a class or with substitutes who may not have enough material to fill the time frame.

The first batch of lessons are being offered now to help educators and students during the final months of a very challenging school year with the knowledge that school year endings are difficult enough without all the issues of Covid and its impact on schools and education.

Who is program creator Marianne Douglas?

Marianne is a twenty-eight year veteran of the teaching profession and is the creator of the multiple award-winning Strategies for Success program. She was named “Teacher of the Year” for Mt. Hope High School for creating the course and later that year was named “Teacher of the Year” for the entire school district as well as Outstanding Educator for Rhode Island by the Portuguese-American Women's Association.

She has received the Jefferson Award for Public Service and the Rhode Island College Service Award for creating the program and her work with bullying, was a National Finalist in Cable in the Classroom Leaders in Learning and was recognized as a “Hero” by the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Douglas is the former CEO and President of Horizon Aviation, Inc. based at TF Green Airport, the Administrative Director of Kaleidoscope Theatre, a touring educational theatre company and one of the co-founders of the Bristol Theatre Company. Her experiences as a business owner led her to seminars by some of the top business leaders in the world where she learned the training techniques essential to their success. She created a teaching strategy based on these techniques and her years in both the math and business classroom have won her acclaim from students and teachers alike.
